Newborn Knot Hat

Have you seen Lion Brand’s #HatNotHate campaign? What an amazing cause! With my baby due any day now (can’t believe it!) I’ve been overly emotional thinking about my hopes and dreams for him. This cause hits close to home and I can only wish that he will grow up in a world without bullying.

I created this newborn knot hat to represent my goal to raise the next generation of kids that will understand the worth and importance of being kind to everyone and put an end to bullying.

Materials

1 skein worsted weight yarn – I used Caron Simply Soft in Royal Blue

3.5 mm hook

Stitch marker

Sizing

I call this a newborn hat but should fit most newborns to three months old since hat size for babies varies. The circumference is 13″ and with the folded brim the hat can be slightly adjusted.

Abbreviations

Chain stitch – ch

Slip stitch – sl st

Single crochet – sc

Single crochet two together – sc2tog

Notes

– Most of the hat is worked by joining in the rounds and the top is worked in a spiral. I love how Look At What I Made clearly explains how to do both.

– The first stitch of every round is made in the same stitch as the sl st and ch 1 in the hat

– Chain stitches do not count as stitches

– The beanie cuff can be made as long or short as you’d like
